fast system for HD editing/rendering

i am interested to know what kind of setup you would need in order to have fast rendering time, how much ram? graphics card? i hear something like a 3GHZ is slow

what would you recommend as a top system?

Short of buying a hardware renderer, you'll need to buy the fastest, most powerful cpu setup you can afford.
Without knowing a budget, it's impossible to say what you should aim for, but for an idea, yes, a single 3ghz processor is slow, if you compare it to dual xoens or something like that.
