Chrosziel MB for Z1

Hello,
Chrosziel have released their new Matte Box for the FX1/FZ1. Its called the 450-11. It seems to be a re-engineered version of the 411-53PK (which I had on my DVX100A).

The filter trays are side-loading due to the mic overhang clearance problem and has a box style very lightweight support.

The list price in Europe (I'm in the UK) is 1048 Euros which is about $1400 USD.

Regards,

Jonathan Lee (Very pleased FZ1 owner)

Matte box and Follow Focus

The matte box HDV kit is priced at $1566 as promo price and also you can get it as package the matte box and follow focus for $3188..
I think it is a bit expensive isnt it ???

Douglas Spotted Eagle February 9th, 2005 08:45 AM

It does seem a little high. One retailer send me this list of [discounted] pricing;
We currently have some special prices on the Chrosziel accessories.

$1566.00 - Mattebox and rail system

$3188.50 - Mattebox and rail system with Follow Focus

$335.00 - Optional Side wings for Mattebox (if needed)

$320.00 - Remote Zoom control

$715.50 - Wide Angle .7 adapter (real one, not the consumer version sold elsewhere for less).

These prices are the introductory specials. The retail prices are higher.

Their pricing is nuts. $3189. Pleaseeee! The price of a FX1 for a matte box and follow focus. I don't think so...........

It's kinda like Rolls-Royce... you want that brand name on there, ya gotsta pay fer it.

I agree, it's a little high in price compared to what else is out there, but it's also top shelf gear.

Gabor Lacza February 10th, 2005 08:23 AM

On the "jody" video when that guy from JAG talked about the camera and the matte box with follow focus he was mentioning that all this for $7000....but not it looks like over $8000 for everything....hmmmm!!

Laszlo Bodo February 10th, 2005 08:47 AM

It's almost 10.000,-.

Jonathan Lee February 10th, 2005 03:54 PM

I'm surprised how expensive it is in the USA compared to the UK and Europe; its usually quite the opposite.

The basic 450-hdv kit as I said retails for about $1400 USD in the UK. The follow-focus rig is roughly about $1065 USD. Thats only $2465 for the lot. You might consider buying it over here for once!

Jonathan Lee

Gabor Lacza February 10th, 2005 06:30 PM

Jonathan,
do you have a website where they selling these products for the prices you mentioned?
Gabor

Jonathan Lee February 10th, 2005 07:44 PM

Gabor,
The basic 450-HDV kit is listed at 1048 Euros, by www.chrosziel.com in Germany. It is not on their website DV price list yet as it has not been updated yet. There is a pdf from Chrosziel, which I got from a UK dealer. Chrosziel might send it you if you e-mail them for it.

The follow-focus rig cost me £570 in the UK (about 830 Euros). We here also have to pay a 17.5% sales tax on top of this which foreign buyers do not.

Try Visual Impact in the UK at: www.visuals.co.uk. Ask them for a price and shipping.

Regards,
Jonathan

Gabor Lacza February 11th, 2005 12:07 PM

Jonathan,
I emailed Visual Impact and they send me the price list which is :

Chrosziel HDDV kit GBP 630.00 ($1175)
Chrosziel Follow focus GBP 600.00 ($1120)
Extra Gear ring for the HVR-Z1E GBP 58.00 ($108)

This is a huge difference than the price was given to me by 16x9inc here in the States.
Also they mentioned here Z1E and there is a Z1U...Any difference?

Gabor

Gabor,
The "E" refers to Europe and a camera with a European warranty. "U" refers to the USA and North America (I assume).
Cameras are the same otherwise.
By the way, I quoted Euros as I assumed you were in Hungary.

Regards,
Jonathan

Gabor Lacza February 11th, 2005 01:08 PM

Jonathan,
I know, I am confusing....Now I am in the States.
So if E or U doesnt matter than these prices are much better.
Thanks
Gabor

Shannon Rawls February 11th, 2005 01:26 PM

U = US = camera software setup for the US (60i) out the box

E = UK = camera software setup for the UK (50i) out the box

Thanks Shannon, I stand corrected!

Douglas Spotted Eagle February 11th, 2005 01:36 PM

There is also the "N" for Latin America.
The letter actually DOES matter for purposes of warranty/support. The Sony folks made this pretty clear at Sundance Film Fest.

No you don't. You were correct too. *smile*

Hi, Gabor/Shannon/Douglas

Personally, I'm surprised how much over the MRP some of this equipment is in the states, considering the cameras were/are quite a bit cheaper in the US. However I suppose the weakness of the Dollar has a lot to do with the racking up of the price to compensate.

Get 'em cheap while you can is my suggestion. Glad to be of help!Hands across the water for FZ1 owners!!

Regards,
Jonathan

Victor Muh February 17th, 2005 06:14 PM

Well, I want to buy my Z1 in the U.S., but I will be mostly shooting in PAL.

What will the drawbacks be for me?

I remember Shannon talking about the image in the monitor looking stretched...

Sean M Lee February 17th, 2005 06:55 PM

well, the power supply would be for 60 cycle, not 50 to start.
The warranty issue may or not be a concern to you.
The US version DOES come with a French Owner's Manual.

Victor Muh February 17th, 2005 07:09 PM

Don't you mean 110v versus 220v?

<<<-- Originally posted by Sean M Lee : well, the power supply would be for 60 cycle, not 50 to start. -->>>

Douglas Spotted Eagle February 17th, 2005 08:31 PM

"N" for Latin America, 50i out of the box.

Sean M Lee February 17th, 2005 08:38 PM

Victor, that too. ; )

Soeren Mueller February 28th, 2005 05:21 PM

Well I'm currently using a Chrosziel Mattebox (I believe it's the 411-53 or something like that ;o) with my DVX100AE... however I'm thinking about migrating to HDV - namely the Z1 - despite the relatively low bitrate MPEG2 compression applied... ;)
Nevertheless I thought (or hoped) I could still use my (quite expensive *sigh*) Chrosziel MB - and now I'm reading about the problem with the Z1 "internal" mic and the filter stage of the Chrosziel! :-/
Does anyone know if really the only thing changed for the special new version of the Chrosziel for the FX1/Z1 is the orientation of the filter holder??! If so.. well.. I just had a (very quick) look at my MB and it's build quite modular with screws everywhere.. and perhaps I could disassemble/change it so that I could rotate the filter stage myself 90 degrees to the left or right!
At least I'd try that instead of selling it and having to buy a completely new one... :)
