delete takes?
 

Would it be possible to delete previous takes on/in camera to free up SXS space?

For instance.... lests say it takes 6 takes to get a scene right, and the 1st 5 are not worthy.... can you delete them on camera and keep the 6th take to free up room for the next scene(s)?

Also.... any news of an external reader for the SXS cards? fiewire ( bus powered )?

How about in-camera trimming a (much too long) scene? That would be really helpful.

Sci-fi aside, from what I understand you can browse and delete clips just like files.

And the current SxS Pro cards pricing should effectively stop anybody from shooting anything without real scenario of some kind, which will only improve the shots quality as well:)

hopefully deleting clips will not cause any write slow downs.... and the cards can manage without any hiccups.

I'm working on a 2 month project right now with Z1's and the post time is really a pain with all the ff'ing to good takes. Looking forward to a cleaner and greener workflow!

Yes, you can delete clips just as you can with the disc based cameras.

Probably one of the best parts of being tapeless IMHO. Early on, with the disc based HD cameras, you could only peel the clips off in a one by one fashion from the last to the first. A firmware update brought random clip delete capability. As someone astutely observed, "How do you prevent severe disc file fragmentation with that capability?". The answer, for the disc based units anyway, is that you don't get back the space until it totals at least 30 seconds in duration. This cuts down on the laser jumping around which may be less of, if not a moot issue with the cards due to the access speed of RAM.

This is part of the beauty of the system. Learning to delete stuff ahead of time that will never be used saves time in the post process, and keeps your archive free of useless junk.

Boy oh boy, Christopher. You are going to love this workflow. Having PREV and NEXT functions on the transport that work just like jumping between songs on a music CD, or chapters on a DVD. But you won't even use that in the post process. You'll be looking at a list of clips and you'll simply choose the ones you want to use, trim them, then copy that portion in a format your NLE can use. Cleaner and greener is an understatement!
