using shutter speeds between 1/25 and 1/50: no-go?

1/25 easily looks streaky and can be pretty distracting/video-ish in many conditions. But would it be ok to use shutters like 1/30 and 1/40 to find a bit of a middle road to get more light but still not totally ruin the filmic 1/48 look? Or is there some serious disadvantages to using these unconventional shutter speeds?
