DIY Foam Core shade for 7" LCD monitors

Sunny day shoot - no time to order a sunshade for my Marshall 7" LCD monitor.

So I grabbed some waste black foam core and did this.

Worked INCREDIBLY well. Costs virtually nothing if you have scrap around.

Took 10 minutes to make it with a foam core, framing square, and razor knife.

(for those who are new to form core - one of it's most exceptional characteristics is that if you score it with a razor knife and bend it back, it "cracks" along the line, but the paper backing holds it together. Add GAFF To reinforce the bends and you've got a nearly INSTANT monitor shade that blocks the strongest sun and lets you really see what you're shooting.

Enjoy. (Oh, sorry about the crappy iphone photo attached. No time to do better right now)

Nice! I went even cheaper with black heavy cardboard and gaffers tape! Wasn't about to fork over $70 for the one to fit my monitor!

Looks good. What method are you using to attach the shade to the monitor? My monitor isn't quite an inch thick. Velcro?

Sorry for the late reply. Traveling and shooting too much!

The answer is a strip of Gaffers tape at the top. It holds the shade firmly in place and also lets you "flip up" the shade if you're indoors and want everyone to see the shot.
