laptop died - i'm in need of recommendations

hi people.
i'm in poland working on a project and... my laptop died :(

need to either replace motherboard or get a new machine.

the project is actually being edited on a desktop computer in an editing room, but i've been using my vegas on the laptop quite a bit as well - to try things out and render between editing shifts.

i got my broken laptop (hp pavillion dv4000) via hp website about five years ago, so i'm thinking about getting a new laptop here in poland.

can anyone please recommend a good laptop for editing hd material with vegas?

most of the work i do is on a desktop computer, but i'd really like my laptop to be "capable" when needed.

let's say budget around: $1000
i don't know if US models are the same as EUROPE models.... i guess it's something i'll have to look into.... if anyone knows about these things i'd really appreciate some tips.

THANKS!

You may have to up the budget, but the HDX18t is a pretty sweet laptop - got mine secondhand, and it's a well balanced machine that seems to edit fairly smoothly.
