vidcap60.exe crash after capture
 

I'm using Windows 7 Pro SP1 running Vegas Pro v10e 64-bit and using vidcap60 via firewire to capture from a DV tape recorded using a Sony DCR-TRV480 camcorder.

When I press Stop after a capture vidcap crashes. It crashes whether I'm capturing a few seconds or several minutes. However, the video is actually captured. Google shows a lot of people having this issue through the years, but haven't been successful in find a solution.

VidCap60 does work on another PC running Vegas 64-bit with same camera through firewire. Also it's not a memory issue with my Dell M6500 workstation (detailed spec's on my web).

Anybody have a solution?

Hi Ken, I'm going through the workflow transition from SD>HD. This has meant quite a few changes (lol!), one was needing to apply the LEGACY driver to the actually 1394 device. I'm just wondering if you have this applied? I'm guessing you have as you've been able to capture.

This issue comes about as Win7, by default, registers the Win7 1394 driver and not this LEGACY 1394 one. Once I drilled-down to that driver and selected it VidCap performed as expected.

Thanks for replying Graham. I've attached screen shot of Device Mgr showing driver I'm using. How do I know if I'm using a legacy driver or not? When I look at the driver in Device Mgr there's nothing to roll back to.

Here's a hopefully helpful post from a user on the Sony Vegas forum about legacy drivers.

Go to Device Manager and find your firewire device. Update drivers and select the option where you can choose from a list. Choose the firewire driver that is not being used. On my computer I had a Windows 7 driver, a legacy driver and another one. I chose the last one and all of my firewire cameras and Canopus device started working.
