Gradient track blend - please help

Hi Folks.

I have a clip on one video track and another on the track below. I want to be able to see the top half of the 'top' track and the bottom half of the track below but with a nice gradient or 'soft' split so they seamlessly blend into each other.

I have been using Premiere Pro for a few years now but this one has stumped me.

Cheers

Pete

Premiere does not do feathered masks. But you can create this effect by making a matte in Photoshop the size of your project and utilizing the track matte tools. The old Set Matte filter can also work.

If you have After Effects, it can do this kind of thing in its sleep with just a feathered mask.

You can do this with gradient masks made in Photoshop---make two, the size of your image, white where you want to see, black where you don't, gradiated in the part you want to overlap. One goes white on top to black on bottom, one goes black on top to white on bottom. Lay each over it's own clip --video one, mask one, video two, mask two. Apply track matte key to each video, select the appropriate mask for each track in the effect setup window. Select composite as "matte luma". The clips should each now be visible where it's matte is white, overlap where gradated, and not visible where the matte is black. /Battle Vaughan/miamiherald.com video team
