It does with after effects, have checked premiere pro.
I guess one issue is if you use QuickTime pro a lot (I use mpeg stream clip)
Also I am not sure if QuickTime lite will decode prorez
I presume you have tried Cineform support?
It would be nice to have definitive answer to this problem

I currently have a ticket open with Cineform support on this but it is not moving very fast (not blaming them mind you, it is just hard to find the culprit when they cannot reproduce this in house). I do not have quicktime pro, so I do not use it as a standalone app. But I do frequently generate complex animations in After Effects that have alpha channels and transparencies that I export to Quicktime animation codec to preserve qulaity and alpha information. I would not want to lose that particular feature.
