Intensity Workflow

I did search - couldn't find the answer.

Okay. I want to view my program material on a proper HD monitor, not a computer monitor. The Blackmagic Intensity seems to fit that need, but their website isn't exactly completely informative.

Right now I gather that the Intensity card outputs program material out of Premiere onto a HDTV (via component or HDMI). To achieve this do I have to transcode the footage to one of the Blackmagic codecs? Or will this product actually allow me to view HDV, P2, and XDCAM EX directly from the timeline?

Would another product be better? The decklink studio seems more substantial, however my entire workflow is file based. There's a lot of features there that would go to waste.

Thanks
