Best format for DVD creation

Hi,

After I finish editing all my 1080i footage what is the best way to export to DVD. There's so many options, compressions, codecs. I used to do everything with a video card but I sold it because it didn't support HDV and now I'm learning my way around the compression/codec ropes. Oh, I use Premiere Pro 2.0.

Are you going to author your DVD in a seperate program? If so, try one of the MPEG-2 DVD presets in Premiere Pro. I recommend the "NTSC DV 4x3 High Quality 7Mb CBR 1 Pass" preset.

If you don't have a standalone DVD authoring program, you can export to a basic DVD from within Premiere Pro (File>Export>Export to DVD). You should still be able to use the "NTSC DV 4x3 High Quality 7Mb CBR 1 Pass" preset.

DVDs only use the MPEG-2 codec for video. For audio, the officially supported formats are uncompressed PCM (which I don't recommend because of the space and bandwidth it requires), and Dolby Digital (AC3). For best compatibility, the video plus audio streams should not go over 8Mbps.
