Editing in prem pro 2

Hi Guys,
I have been doing some tests shooting with an xha1 and editing in p.p.2
I have noticed if I add a lot of different video effects to the clip eg. keying, adjustments for brightness & contrast, maybe a slight colour change, possibly a blur to my background image. I get some sort of slowing and lack of sync with the audio. As far as I am aware I have not stretched or modified the clip duration in any way, but this appears on several different clips. I haven't tried exporting these files, but as a newbie want to know all the why's and wherfores while testing!
