Dolby Digital EX/DTS-ES Encoding?

Hi Everyone,

Another Surround Sound question for you all...

I was just wondering if anyone here has used "Dolby Digital EX" or "DTS-ES" encoding as of yet? I want to have a play around with 7.1 surround...

I understand that EX is just matrixed with a special flag in the audio stream, but I can't find any information on how to "fly" that flag. Is there a Mac encoder out there that can handle EX?

Any one have any ideas? I'm using a Final Cut Studio system.

I heard someone say that Vegas can handle it, but haven't seen anyone do it first hand...

Thanks!

Chris!

7.1

Vegas can do it , but I think its the "how to use it" that has not been standardized as of yet. if its used as a background similar to the RR RL then it kinda collapses the sound field. so unique sound need to be recorded in the field or created for the sides to be effective.

Vegas uses the Mainconcept encoder. I do not have a six (or seventh) speaker so I have not tested it, but I agree with Gerry. You can read more about the encoding guidelines at Dolby.com (Dolby Digital Professional Encoding Guidelines)

Thanks for your replies!

I've had a quick look at the MainConcept page, but all of their software seems to only support 5.1. Even their "Dolby Digital SDK" doesn't support Dolby Digital EX. Maybe they further develop the encoder that goes into Vegas...

Ulead VideoStudio 11+ also does it and its so easy!
