i just recieved my mke 300 today. i replaced the battery in it and tried to turn it on but the red LED only flashed. tried a different battery and still the same. does it have to be MOUNTED onto the camera for it to turn on or the audio jack has to be plugged into the camera? or did i recieve a broken mke300

Did you try the mic after turning it on? Thats how the light is on the Senn. ME66 so Im sure its the same for the MKE and that the mic is properly working.

This is absolutely normal operation. (See the pamphlet included with the mic.) The light should only wink once when powering-up. This indicates that the battery has power. No wink, dead mic.
