Sound quality

Using an ECM44B with a Sony TRV38.

The sound is echo-ie, with occassional pops on b's, p's etc.

As if the mic is much too hot.

This is not apparent when using headphones while shooting.

And the TRV38 doesn' t allow, I believe, you to ride incoming in any case.

Any sense of what's going on here?

Thanks.

The "echo-ey" description, I'm not understanding. Sounds like distortion in any event, and if you can't ride the input (I don't know the TRV) then you'll need some kind of attenuation device. The Beachtek is popular...as is the Sound Devices.
