Are you using a Nagra SD?
Greetings,
I need to replace my little recorder, and looked at the Nagra SD. If you use one, would you post your impressions? and are the results up to the reputation of the brand? Thanks. L. |

Re: Are you using a Nagra SD?
Yes and yes - the SD is a great little recorder and is worthy of Nagra.
It's very flexible in use and easy to use. I have mine with the "green ring" high quality mic. option and also have an XLR cable option so I can use good mics with my Nagra EMP and record onto the SD. Sadly there is no phantom power nor digital inputs on the SD. But it's a great unit and my No.1 pocket machine.

Re: Are you using a Nagra SD?
Thanks John.
As for phantom power, regarding what I would do with it, adding a wired microphone would defeat the purpose of having a small self contained unit. I assume that the availale Nagra plug-in microphone are of good quality. If I am not mistaken they are the same that are used with the Ares models. L. |

The RED ring standard version is the one normally delivered with the SD, unless you request otherwise when ordering (the GREEN ring version is more expensive).

Re: Are you using a Nagra SD?
John,
Last question if I may: besides the 'Green' being somewhat shock resistant according to their ads, in terms of sound quality is it better than the 'Red'? Thanks. L. |

It has different mic. capsules from the red and is better quality and lower noise. Though Nagra did tell me that later "reds" are better than earlier ones and the difference is not as large as it was originally.
