Tascam DR-40 Deal

I have been wanting to buy a Tascam DR-40 to use with my GH4 for some time now but it has been too expensive. They have finally gone on sale at B&H for $109 and a free copy of Sony Sound Forge Pro 11. Total discount is $369 from regular price. I pulled the trigger today. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1134048-REG/tascam_dr_40br_dr_40_portable_pcm_recorder_xlr.html

That's an excellent deal. Thanks for posting!

Now if they'd only have a similar deal on a DR-70, I'd click on that without a second thought. Maybe we'll see it as an after-Xmas special. ;-)

I own one, don't need another, but that's cheap enough I'm considering buying it for backup. That's around regular pocket recorder pricing.

Re: Tascam DR-40 Deal

I have two DR40s that get used at every wedding and some chorus concerts I film.

I originally got one, and then next time they were on sale about a year later, I picked one up for a backup. They are plastic and don't feel very robust, and I can't afford to not have one working. A lot of times at weddings, there will be a combination of string quartet, piano, guitar, harp etc. I also have a DR05 and being able to place a recorder at each sound location is great for the finished product.

I've been very pleased with the sound quality. Certainly better than an on camera mic in the situations mentioned above.

Throw the "mastering" and "multi band compressor" on it in PPCC and you'll get some nice sounding instrumentals.

Still on sale for $109 but they have deleted the free Sound Forge Pro software.

Yeah, that's a bummer. I could have used that software on my macpro.
