Your distances (8" and 24") are exactly what I assumed when I came up with my previous numbers.

Your ears are probably correct. If you're keeping the boom track 20dB lower than the lav track, the phase issue will be negligible. Personally, I would slide it anyway, just because I'm a compulsive nut. But you probably don't need to bother. Stay calm and carry on!
