Catch it while you can!
I mixed this live last night. Helena Symphony Orchestra. Mahler and Rossini.
The Mahler is all Rode mics. NT5's, M3's, M5's, NT1's. mixed through and recorded to a Zoom L-20. Mix fed into a ART Pro VLA II compressor. Out to video folks. Rossini uses Rode M5's for the choir and 57's on the soloist. For what ever reason they take the shows down after a week or so, watch it while you can! Enjoy. John M. Re: Catch it while you can!
I’ve been following Johns sound recordings for the Helena Symphony, and I have to say, I’m envious, having an orchestra the quality of this orchestra to work with and get these results is something else again.
The music starts at 41mins, and my favourite section starts at 2hrs 6m in, the balance on the big chorale and the 4 soloists is so good, you stop listening to the sound and just listen to the music. Enjoy. Cheers. |
Re: Catch it while you can!
The vocal soloists and recordings are exquisite. Thanks for the link, John.

Re: Catch it while you can!
Listening to the interview at 1:16:59, are both lapel mics being used in the mix when only one voice is speaking? Sounds a bit unnatural and I'm wondering of the non-speaker's lapel mic is the source of the slightly delayed additional sound delivery.
Just thought I'd ask since the opportunity was here. :-) Andrew |
Re: Catch it while you can!
Thanks Allan and Martin, it was a great show. Andrew, fair question but I have no answer. My audio job is strictly the musical performance. Any interviews etc. are the responsibility of the video crew. Hope you enjoyed the music. j
