Was this with the Event 2020 speakers or a speaker product that never saw the light of retail day? I have a set of speakers and am so glad I purchased them.

Yes Andrew I remember our discussion about RØDE speakers and I know they never went ahead with a production run of the prototype speaker we heard at the Silverwater HQ in Sydney about 25years ago. It sounded very good and as much as we wanted to hear the soundstage with two, there was only one ready in their listening room. What brand name does yours have?

In 2023 RØDE owner Peter Freedman bought Advent in the U.S. so he now had a speaker company and decided he didn’t need to make speakers in Sydney.

Here’s Peter testing a new RØDE prototype speaker at Silverwater about 30 years ago. This isn’t the one I heard, it had rounded corners, but we can see he was interested back then. He’s giving us the finger because we’re interupting him, even so today I can hardly recognise him lol. …

Wow, amazing to see him with that much hair! LOL

You might be thinking of Event Electronics rather than 'Advent'?

Wikipedia has Mackie listed as the company they purchased in 2023.

Wish I knew why Event Electronics (their 2006 purchase) was shuttered just as they were ramping up production to fill orders for their Opal speaker product. Seems most unusual.

Hi Andrew, the plot thickens, yes it is Event and here’s the story …

https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/event-opal

And it is the speaker I heard at RØDE that day, very impressive, but they never went ahead with it. I think the reason they never went ahead with it is because of its expensive retail price for their intended market. Because it was so good they rushed their market research which was always changing. And studying its description the Opal was very expensive to make.

The review, and I trusted Paul White's comments - never bought anything he suggested and disagreed. Designed for studios - so the things he looks at are factual and important, and evidenced. Shame these sort of fizzled out. Story of my life has been to want things, but by the time I can afford them, they've gone!

Early on in this tooic we were talking about mains power. The hifi brigade I note, have solutions. This is why I have zero time for their particular type of audio. For every brilliant engineer, there are products like this exposing the flaws.

Yes, the price is correct, but look at the benefits.
