Making Life Difficult For One'self.

Today we shot what was originally intended to be a quick audition but grew like Topsy into a three-camera coverage of a short scene.

Why difficult - because we lit it for three cameras.

Why still difficult - because the cameras were :-

SI2K.

Sony Z1 with Letus Extreme.
Sony Z1 with P+S Technik Mini35-400.

Why still difficult. - We wanted to replicate with acceptable lighting levels, gloomy conditions in a shed with no windows, just under-eaves illumination plus an outdoors camping light.

The camera positions were not ideal. However it was a learning exercise to see how well or badly, SI2K footage for hi res wides and lower res 35mm adaptor footage for the close-ups can be integrated.

Time also did not permit going in really close for the traditional close-ups.

Will eventually post a clip if the imaging quality does not embarrass me too much.

Okay. Here is a link to the clip.

Please remember, the exercise was for purpose of audition and screen test, not actual production, so tripod legs and the occasional cameraman's foot are in the shot.

This should not be regarded as a valid comparison of Letus Extreme versus P+S Technik Mini35-400 as the best lens, the Noct-Nikkor was on the Letus Extreme. This Letus Extreme has also been "roided" for centricity to wring out the maximum groundglass area possible.

Lenslist:

Z1/Mini35 - Nikon 50mm f1.4 wide-open.
Z1/Letus Extreme - Noct-Nikkor 59mm f1.2 @ f1.4.
SI2K - Nikon 14mm f2.8 rectilinear at about f4.
Camcorder Iris on both was at f4.

Lighting.

Soft cross-key, consisting of two vintage portrait PHOTAX photofloods re-lamped with single CFLs with edison screw mount, each equivalent to 240w incandescant.

Kick, consisting of Primus outdoors portable CFL lamp as part of set.

Audio.

Rode mic on pole, via Sound Devices Mix Pre into the SI2K. Simple cross mix of left and right channels in Premiere to rebalance bracketted levels across the stereo pair as mono.
