A build-your-own solution?

I'm sure that I can't be the first one to think about this, and there must be a reason why it wouldn't work, but...

How about using:

The Prosilica Ge1910
Prosilica: GE1910 | GE1910C GigE camera: datasheet - manual - software

which uses the Kodak KAI-02150 HD chip.

You could use Streampix and Cineform to record into Cineform Raw.

And you could use C to PL adapter to use PL-mount lenses:
The Film Equipment Site - Lens Mount Adaptors and Range Extenders

Things I'm not sure of:

How would one control iris? Can this be done in the Streampix software?
What dynamic range in stops does the Kodak chip offer?

There must be another reason why this wouldn't work, or one would have thought that lots of people would be doing it. Or are they?
