Best Lens for Letus35? at DVinfo.net

Hi all,

I am awaiting a package containing a Letus35 (thanks Quyen!) and I'm wondering what the best lens you can recommend I use on a live event. Preferrably, I would like to use a zoom lens (25 - 125 or something similar). Anyone have any experience with this? Any recommendations?

BTW, I'll be using it on a VX2100.

Well, I can tell you what not to use: A pentax lens with a pentax adapter.

Did you choose Canon or Nikon mount? That decideds the lense-brand. I have a Canon FD 50 mm/1.8 on my HC1. You can check some video I made on http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=49313

That combination basically give you about 5 meters to work with.

If you have a camera store with used lenses maybe you can try out a couple of lenses on location and decide then? Nothing beats actually trying it...

My 50mm 1.4 Canon FD is spectacular. Make sure it has good mechanical movements though. You get only one step of light loss from the entire system and it's the lens Quyen tested with I believe. $80 on ebay.

old Nikkor glass is great, I have a set of 24mm 50mm 85mm and 105mm all are GREAT, the old glass has METAL housing, not plastic, and the focus is smoooth

plus they are CHEAP

obin, since i have the canon mount, i don't think i'm able to use a nikkor lens. or am i?

what is the difference between canon fd, ef and eos? i can't seem to find any retailers that carry canon fd lenses. am i able to use a canon ef lens or an eos lens? if not, can someone point me to a reliable online retailer where i can purchase one with fast shipping? i have a shoot this saturday that i would like to use it on.

No one fixed-length lens will do everything. Something around 50-55mm is a good first lens but you'll also want something in the 17-28mm range and something in the 85-110mm range. Or, you can use a zoom, as there are some great 28-105mm's and 24-70mm's. Fixed-length lenses with apertures in the F1.2-1.5 range are relatively inexpensive but the best you will be able to find in the zooms is an F2.8 constant aperture. But that's ok, because F2.8 is about the biggest aperture you'd usually want for the situations in which you'd want a zoom.

Why not? I'm using a 50mm F1.4 Super Takumar, is there a problem with these lenses that I'm not aware of?
