I just found out that a company that I was subcontracting for as a shooter and editor is going out of business, so my calendar has opened up significantly, both weekdays and weekends. Live in lower Westchester County, NY, conveniently located just 30 minutes from NYC and northern NJ, and 20 min. from southern CT. Have car in good shape, know the tri-state area well. I've been shooting for 12 years, the last three with my XL1. (have also shot with VX2000 and PD150) Have shot corporate video and a couple of thousand weddings, also was sole camera operator for a recent indie feature, using my XL1. Have been editing for about 4 years on the company's DPS Velocity system, also have my own system with Adobe Premiere 6.5, will be upgrading to Premiere Pro soon, also getting a MAC with FCP by end of July. Accessories: "pro mini DV shoulder brace" for the XL1 from Studio 1, excellent piece of equipment, shot portions of the feature with it, resulting in very steady hand held shots. Bogen tripod, w. GlideCam jib arm for tripod, extends to about 20 feet up; Lowell light kit with three totas, various wattages, Bogen stands; wireless mike system. Have wedding demo DVD, also DVD copies of weddings shot and edited by me, & lots of raw footage from wedding shoots available as well. Also have trailer I edited for feature I shot, and raw footage from the shoot available as well. Education background: B.A.- communication arts from Hofstra U., concentration in film/tv production. If not I apologize in advance. For the last 2 year I have undertaken a rather fun hobby, and that is teaching kids in the 11 to 18 year age group all I know about shooting and editing. I have been using the panasonic ag-456, and the Supercam to teach shooting. I have used the casablanca system to teach editing. All has gone well until a few weeks ago. Do to a bad storm and a leak in the roof, all the equipment that I was using got destroyed. The equipment was mainly my old equipment that I used for wedding and deposition shooting. As such, I didnt insure it anymore. My home owners policy gave me just enough to fix the roof, and replace the S-vhs decks that were also destroyed. Luckily only my keyboard for the casablanca was destroyed. I should have a replacement soon. Does anyone know where I might be able to go to try and solicit donations for this program? I am presently looking into trying to form a non-profit organization called Ricks Video-Maniacs. This whole process is lengthy and some what costly too. I am tempted to continue teaching these kids using my pd-150, but I use that camera for a living, and could not take a chance that something might happen to it. The supercam was my back-up camera. So in essence, I am taking a chance shooting events with no back-up camera. I am a guy with limited means trying to make a difference. So I hope I can get assistance from the forum. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Rick Casuso June 25th, 2004, 09:18 PM Hi Heath, Please send me an e-mail with a bit more history and your requirements, I am presently scouting out help for a gig I may land soon. The gig is a half hour Showcase aired every once a week during the fall season. Seems like this would be right up your alley. I can't be more specific until a contract is signed, but we will be covering an area from Deerfield Beach to Port. St. Lucie. Rick Rob Lohman June 26th, 2004, 04:13 AM Rick: that sounds like a nice program you have running. I have moved your post to a more approriate forum and I've also made the post stick at the top of the forum so people will see it longer. Rick Casuso June 26th, 2004, 05:46 PM Thanks Rob. I'm starting a little video production right now, so I'm available for anything and everything. Christopher Murphy chris.murphy@willowstudios.com Yi Fong Yu June 30th, 2004, 11:04 AM hello chris, i saw your name in another thread (somn about maine or somn) and was about to email you but i have my finals tonight so i'm a bit tied up as of right now (@work). anyway i have this project i wanna do during july and august, but NH to Boston is a LONG drive!!! =). i will email you the script tonight. now... your HD cam. we don't have HD-DVD yet... how do you wish to distribute what you record on the HD cam on home media, regular DVD? i know the look of HD cam on DVD surpasses DV cam on DVD but still... i had the choice of buying a HD cam earlier this year and went with xl1s cause there is (now) no media to contain such high quality resolution. the other thing i was thinking is that no HD cams (under $5k) now have interchangeable lenses like the xl1s. i know HD can go film easily but after theatrical run people still like their DVDs =). I need an artist to create storyboard panels for me. There will be about 15-20 drawings. Each one will be done in pencil. They don't need to be extremely detailed. This is a simple project. The person I choose will have their name in the credits of the film. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Anthony Faust David Mintzer July 9th, 2004, 02:18 PM Are you looking to get this done gratis? Anthony Faust July 9th, 2004, 02:36 PM David, I'd prefer to have this done gratis. To return the favor, I will include the storyboard artist in the credits of the film. Email me at anthonyfaust@hotmail.com for more details. I've put a mock up of the storyboards online. Thanks, Anthony Richard Alvarez July 9th, 2004, 02:55 PM Anthony, Try your local art school, or better yet, check out your local comic store. I know several profesional comic book artists who double up as storyboard artists. (No, they don't work for free.) By the way, screen credit is usually a 'given', you might want to up the ante on your offer. Wood July 11th, 2004, 05:43 PM Hello, I recently relocated to Los Angeles and have been keeping my chin above water freelancing (mostly Post-Pro work). I'm looking to meet like minds around town and possibly crew up to produce event, coroporate, documentary type work. If you're a camera person, sound person, sales producer with gear and know how, maybe we can team up and make some extra cash. I have a 3-chip camera, but I dislike shooting. I'd rather be the guy in the dark room at 3am sitting behind a computer cutting. ***I am also open to helping any Post facilities out there that are busy and in need of a hand. I'm proficient in Media Composer and I own an Xpress box. My FCP skills are improving. My After Effects skills are good.*** I'm here if you're interested. Drop me a line. Thanks, Jason Bob Andren July 11th, 2004, 09:51 PM Hello I have a 4 min video I want to give film look to. Seek someone in the NY/NJ/CT area who can de-interlace it or film look with Magic Bullet at an indie friendly (inexpensive) rate. Friend de-interlaced a previous version with his Vegas Video system and it looked good, but he moved away. I've seen impressive film look done with Magic Bullet so that's an option also. An editor acquaintance tired film looking it via Cinelook and I did not like the results, and his system was unable to do de-interlacing. It's on miniDV, was shot with Canon XL1. Thanks for any help. I live in lower westchester cty, 30 min from NYC, and north NJ and 20 min from south CT. Have car, can travel. Bob BA2119@aol.com Dan Holly July 12th, 2004, 11:05 AM Hello, I'm getting married 8-28-2004. Most of my DV cronies are in the wedding, so we need another camera jockey for the event. I can't offer any money for the event, but I can offer some good fishing, a place to stay, and much needed food and drink. I have a GL-1 and a XL1s (with accessories) that can be utilized so you would not need your own gear. Need to be in Anchorage no later than Friday morning the 27th. Wedding on the 28th, then it's open on when you need to be back to the airport etc. The wedding will take place at my cabin (92 miles north of Anchorage) in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley (larger than Virginia). It will be an outdoor event. Please contact me at ifish nospam@ak.net (remove nospam) if you are interested. We can talk on the phone after that. This is a good excuse to come and see Alaska, and get in some good fishing/sight seeing/etc. Rgds., Dan Holly Joe Carney July 12th, 2004, 02:22 PM Is anybody on this board actually using one? Mark Michaels July 12th, 2004, 02:22 PM I will be needing some additional DV cameras for use in October and would rather rent the cameras then buy them if possible, does anyone in Western NY know of any rental houses near buffalo or rochester that rent DV cameras like the XL1 or V1000's? Any help would be helpful Also if there are any freelancers in the area that are looking for 2 days worth of work with such cameras please e-mail me or post a reply. Rebecca Kris Dawson July 12th, 2004, 07:34 PM Hi, I'm the DP and a co-producer for an extremely low budget (pretty much no budget) reshoot of a DV feature film called "For Steppers Only" written and co-directed by Anthony Batie, Sr. The basic story is about an African American girl named Monique who's college career is interupted by college funds. She soon learns of a dance contest named "For Steppers Only". Monique uses this as a strategy to overcome her financial as well as numerous emotional problems that happen along the way. The project is in pre-production stage and is schedule for it's first meeting July 17. This is to get the key crew members organized, discussion of the story and creation of a rough shooting schedule. We're looking for the following crew members: Production manager, location scouts, set designer, assistant director (a must for organization), camera assistants, grips and sound. Equipment: This will be a 2-3 camera shoot utilizing a Canon XL1s, Sony VX2000 and possibly a Sony VX2001. We have basic grip equipment which consists of 2 fluid head tripods, a tripod dolly, a small jib arm, a homemade glidecam (hey it works), an possibly a dolly made with a flatbed garden wagon with pneumatic tires (a cheap trick there). Lighting wise (a "home depot" light kit): 2 worklights on stands, 1 worklight sitting on ground as fill, 4 clamp worklights, variety of 100W-200W light bulbs, colored flood light bulbs, color gels, ND1.2 and CTB gels, diffusion, china balls. Sound: Azden SGM-X shotgun mic (1/8" mini jack), Beringer mic amp with LED VU meter, boom pole. 4 2-way radios for core crew members(Director,AD,DP,PM). And finally... Gaffers tape (in a variety of black and flourescent green and blue ) Seriously though if any possible crew members have equipment they're willing to donate (wireless mics a plus) feel free. If not we expect to use what we have and still treat this production as serious as possible. Production will probably be for a couple weeks in August. Food will be provided. This would be a good experience for any hungry, serious filmmakers out here in the Chicago area who's in the same grind looking to network and build up there skills. Age isn't an issue either (I'm just 18 myself) you just need to have the will to do this. If interested send an email to: lkd_852003@yahoo.com Kris, 1 Charles Papert July 12th, 2004, 07:56 PM Hello gang: Like the title reads, I'm shooting (as in DP'ing) a short film starting this Saturday the 17th and running through the following Sunday the 24th. I don't normally do these any more unless I am directing, but the script on this one convinced me to jump back in one more time! I am using a DVX-100a with a Mini35 setup and a Zeiss lens package. We have some interesting lighting challenges ahead of us. We are still finalizing the grip/electric side of things, and desperately need crew in those departments. If there are any DVI'ers out there who want to help out and perhaps glean some lighting nuggets from the experience, we'd be happy to have you. Also, we need a camera p.a.--again, an opportunity to get some solid experience. The lead actor is Sam LLoyd, who plays Ted the Lawyer on "Scrubs". Very talented. Please email me with responses (or post here with questions). Thanks all, Wei K. Pun July 12th, 2004, 09:21 PM Dear Mark, Hello.
