Hello, i need a mattebox and basic filters for my EX1. I think about a mattebox from Chrosziel and filters from Schneider Optics.
My questions are:
- Have anyone tesed the EX1 with a Chrosziel mattebox, are there vignetting roblems?

- It's better to use 4x5.65 filter or can i use 4x4 filter, because i hearded when use 4x4 filter, the "wide angle effect" is limited.

4x4s are fine. No problems with my EX1.

Chrosziel makes a matte box specifically for the EX1. You might want to call a local dealer and see if they can't give you some information.

My Vocas MB-350 works with the EX1 but I have to load the filters in from the bottom.

Was anybody able to confirm without a doubt that the Redrock mattebox will work well with the EX1? Are there any limitations from the camera mic.

It should work - see this post: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=171418 . He says that there will be an adapter to allow it to work better with video cameras such as the HVX 200 or EX1. However, looking at FreshDV's video, I don't think that the adapter is even necessary. It seems to just butt up against the front of the lens.

The matte box is able to swing away from the camera, which makes a lens change very handy, if using a adapter and it does work with the EX1, also the filters get inserted from the side instead of the top. For the price it is a good value.

The Arri matte box was well designed, lighter in weight but not released as a product as of yet, pictured here.

I'm a bit suspicious about these sideways inserting filters. In a mattebox I find it being essential that you can adjust at least one of the filters vertically, not quite sure how it works with this construction.

I agree although I think the EX-1 design will only allow filters to be inserted sideways due to the end of lens and the placement of the LCD/mic.

That Arri looks nice, although I would guess it'll be like a third the price of the cam, as many Arri products are.

It looks like the chrosziel 450 mattebox. Do it fits 4x5.565 filters?

I think it's more like 2/3 the price of the camera - but it is very, very nice. Makes all the others seem flimsy.

I hung around with Phillip Bloom in Tokyo recently and had a good look at the Ultimate ~ mighty good adaptor. I will probably have to put out about $20,000 to get this camera system up to par!

I thought these matte boxes came with the rails... I guess I have to check the prices now of those.

Dean, I am about to order the mattebox bundled with flags from them for my EX1...is a rail system required or does it clmp onto the lens?

Dean, I plan to use the mattebox along with the Sony.8xWA adapter with the built in sunshade removed. Do you feel that the mattebox will attach onto the outer diameter of the WA adapter and hold? Why is it necessary to have the rail system to use filters? Is it due to weight? What is the manner in which the mattebox is attached to the lens without the rail system?

Basically, a donut, foam with holes in which to fit lens, is the connect to the camera. You need the rails to hold the mattebox which is a swing out type. It may be attachable without the filter trays but I'm not sure about that. You might try the carbon fiber rails from eBay made in India. I have a set and while not the best, they work and will run you about $130.00.

I am understanding it better now. Does the matte box have the actual rod attachment bracket built in to it and that slips onto the rods? So if I am correct to understand, I would buy the mattebox and then just get the rod set and camera plate? Also are you happy with the purchase? It appears to be made very well.

I'll let you know how I feel when it arrives. Yes, the mattebox has an attachment for the rails. Another matte box you might look into is by hyson and you can find it here. It's a bit lighter and can attach to the cam (sans filters) as you can see here:http://www.hysonfilms.com/gallery.html

I am no maths man, but GBP to (shrinking) USD, it looks like you could go the Red Rock Micro way and get brand new for not much more than that ebay listing.

RRM also has nice looking mattebox for not that much scrilla. DVi links for this one galore.

The ebay kit is around 300€ or 470$. This is way cheaper than the redrock kit, which is around 700/800$ ...

Has anyone purchased or tried the Indifocus mattebox?

Well I guess I will find out I just ordered their indiMATTEboxpro with side flags. The side flags are not on the site but if you call Tim he will add it to the order. Also I ordered their follow focus built for the EX1.

Let us know what you think about it once you received it.

Gerald I will let you know but it will be a few weeks since I leave for a job out of town this week. I was also interested in Redrock but their setup for the EX1 is still down the pike.

The Indifocus mattebox, from the pic, looks exactly like the Cinevate mattebox. Can anyone confirm if they are the same?
I have the Cinevate one. It is fine, but I find the filter trays to be flimsy and do not seem secure when loaded. I think I will upgrade to the red rock.

I use the FM600 mattebox from www.videogear.co.uk not expensive but does the job well.

While their isn't anything wrong with other premium brands. Check out the MB-250 from Vocas marketed under the Century name;
