Does anyone know how to round the corners of some old video footage that is smaller that the rest of the film to give it that old scrapbook look?
I am using Vegas 7.0.

Well the way I'd tackle it would be to put a mask graphic in a new video layer over the footage. Fairly easy to do with something like photoshop (if you have it, or something similar). Native photoshop files (.psd format) are supported in Vegas 8 that I have, and presumably version 7 as well, which is great as the transparency is supported and makes masking super easy.
I whipped up a file (1280x720) for you to try if it's helpful....

The width of the old footage is 960 and the height is 632. The background is black.

I will play with the PSD you sent me and see if I can come up with something that fits over the footage perfectly that gives it that look.

Cookie cutter may have a preset that you can use. Easy to size the diffeent shapes. The edges can be feathered also.

Ya, I saw that but it seems to feather the edges too much, too hazy. I like the way Christopher's is clean, like an old TV set. The thing I dont like about Christopher's is that it makes it look somewhat like a rectangle, but I am sure I can play with it enough to make it more square.

It would be way easier if I could do it with the cookie cutter preset because I could just save it as a preset and add it to all the clips.

Here's another option. Try the Video Media Generator (FX), go to Sony Gradient, choose eliptical, and overlay that over your vid. Here's a sample with a still picture.

You can vary the edges by moving the numbered circles inside of the window of the gradient. There are several shapes. Hope this works for you.

I personally like using a graphic for this sort of thing mostly because I'm very fluent in photoshop, but also because vegas works so well in how it deals with graphics. You only need to import a graphic once, and then you can re-edit that graphic file (in photoshop or similar) save it and vegas will automatically update to show the change without needing to reimport it all over again. Quite handy.
For masking like this you could also use other transparency supporting formats like .png or .targa files as well of course. Let me know if you'd rather have one of those and I can post one up for.
