Is there a way to show a 4:3 title safe in a 16:9 composition using FCP?

I'm doing a project that needs to be 16:9 with 4:3 title safe lower thirds.

Any ideas?

My sequence is HDV 1440x1080 (16:9) 30p.

Thanks.

What is it exactly you are trying to do, find the bottom edge or the side edge? Bottom should be the same, I believe. As far as the side edge goes, if you are delivering a 16:9 DVD (letterboxed for 4:3) then you don't need to worry about it being different.

Here's a title/action safe still image I made awhile ago for SD (720x480). I would just place it on an upper video track (it should auto-scale to 225%), change the opacity to taste (maybe 30%), then turn the track on & off whenever you need a guide.

As Mike said, the top & bottom edges are the same, but this will give you a feel for the sides.

I shoot and edit in 16:9 but I want my titles to be 4:3 safe because...

..."Some Players Cheat!
Unfortunately, not all players handle 16:9 video correctly. The aspect ratio setting for
each track is stored in the track’s video title set file (vts_01_1.vob, for example). Most
DVD players read the setting and process it correctly, but some DVD players ignore this
setting and instead look at the aspect ratio setting of the video itself. For the most part,
this works out, but it can result in inconsistencies when playing the title on different
DVD players, particularly if you are not careful while encoding and authoring." - DVD Studio Pro Manual

That works for me. Thanks.
