I am making a list of 2/3-inch super low light and shallow DOF SD cameras.
I know that its HD time - but such a large pixel size can "see in the dark"

1. Standard broadcast cameras.

JVC GY-DV700 and GY-DV700e only 60i 50i

JVC D29-W NTSC and D29-WE PAL 16:9 lists 26P ???
JVC D29 and D29E non-widescreen versions.
Panasonic AW-E860 NTSC and AW-E860e PAL 25P 30P available
Sony DXC-151A and DXC-151AP
Sony XC-711 and XC-711P
Hitachi HV-D5W and HV-D5WE 16:9 has faux-frame mode 25F and 30F


Sony DXC-H10 is some kind of proprietary HD camera.

Anyone has lists of other cameras ???

i think the JVC dv500 is 1/2 inch only. I could be wrong.

I just purchased a Sony DXC-151A from eBay. And I now have the task of finding information on the camera. I don't think I really need all that much beyond finding a power supply for it. And since I want to run it with a battery anyway, I may have more options available to me. But if anyone has already done this battery powered, please let me know.

I'm also thinking on installing a viewfinder plug in the camera to use the finder from a DXC-3000. If that's indeed possible, that would make matters a lot easier to work with this camera in the field.

I sold mine just before the crop of DSLRs came through.e complete The problem is that you need a tethered pc with a capture card to ingest video..
To get the best quality, you want to extract the vga signal - I dont think the 151a has it.
Alternatively look at the Miro DC30/DC30plus going for really cheap on ebay. It has an onboard mjpeg compressor.
You can record to 100% lossless jpeg..

I was looking at a pocket DVR as the means to do my recording with both of my cameras. So would that work better than the route you mentioned here?

What I really need help with is finding a power cable allowing me to run this camera on a battery. I'm guessing I may wind up having to modify a cable for this purpose. If anyone has specific knowledge of how to do this, please post the information you have. Again, this is for the Sony DXC-151A.

pocket dvr's have very high compression. Not bad for youtube or dvd but would suck for any other use..

1.) Is there no way to determine the amount of compression those devices use?
2.) What else will do the job?
3.) How many devices do you need to set the compression rate?
4.) What do you need in the way of a small computer to record the raw stream?
5.) Why can't you record the stream without compression?
