View Full Version : Howdy 2006
Ramon Brown July 26th, 2006, 11:56 AM I have always been reading these forums and others as well, and I think this is by far the most popular and my favorite. With so many people learning from each other and asking questions EVERYDAY on so many subjects, why not be a registered user and avid reader, right. So I finally signed up today and am happy to do so.
I work at a communication company called SoftMirage and also with the joint company SM Sold that does 3D conceptual renderings and videos, websites, and video/DVD production. I obviously only do the latter part and work with luxury real estate clients, land developers, and misc. clients, and produce luxury property videos, land development videos, sales/promotional videos and also our podcast. The corporate videos that I produce and sometimes replicate are usually a mixture of HDV video and photos with animated text and/or graphics. I operate the HDV Sony Z1-U camera, we rent a 0.6x wide-angle lens and occasionally a MicroDolly Jib, and I use the programs Sony Vegas 6, DVD Architect 3, Adobe Premiere 2, After Effects 7, Audition 2, Encore DVD 2, Photoshop CS, and Illustrator CS.
I will be posting away now and offering my advice as well. One question though, when I reply to a post or start a post, I can't seem to add any attachments. Can someone let me know how to do that? Thanks.
Ramon

Toby Engel July 27th, 2006, 10:17 AM Hello, I have been registered to this forum for awhile now but I have never introduced myself. I am 17 years old and an aspiring filmmaker/videographer. I own and shoot with a DVX100A which I purchased with hard earned farm work funds( I live on a farm, anyone need a location?) Anyone else from my neck of the woods? Thanks to everyone for sharing their wealth of knowledge on this with novices such as myself. Hope everyones summer is awesome!!!

Jeffrey J Faulkner July 30th, 2006, 06:36 PM Could someone let me borrow a cup of sugar?
All seriousness aside, I have lurked on this site for a while and really appreciate the advice given.
I work for state government, but have managed, in my spare time to have learned enough DV and FCP to produce a weekly local TV show on UPN in my area.
Now, in my waning years of day employment, pre gold watch day(in the next 18 months), my agency decided to go DV for digital content in training materials. Bottom line is, I get to have fun both day and night.
Again, thanks to all contributors for the wisdom. :-)

Jason Coblentz July 31st, 2006, 12:12 PM Hello Stephen. I live in Las Vegas NV, and am eventually looking to move away from here. Right now, the number one spot I would like to relocate to, is New Mexico. I have been looking at Santa Fe. I still don't know when this would happen, but I always am looking to network. I work with an hd100, and am wanting to make docs, music video's, and eventually indie films.
Stephen Hall July 31st, 2006, 05:01 PM Great, Jason.
There's a lot of activity both in Santa Fe and in Albuquerque.
You may want to check into NMIFA, at the link in the first post, and also join our meetup group, where we schedule events and do member notifications:

Tim Brown August 21st, 2006, 07:10 PM There are a number of folks that contribute here regularly and there are a number of folks in the production community that are members of the DC Film Salon http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/dcfilmsalon/.
It's good to have more people in the community and welcome from down '95.

Johnny Martinez August 21st, 2006, 07:40 PM Hi everyone I am now at the Horseshoe in Tunica, Ms. We just installed an IMAG system in Bluesville and I am running the entire production of video for all live concerts.
I love it. It is a big change from 1-XL1S. I now have 3 cameras on pan and tilt, 4 EIKI projectors,an Analogway switcher, DVD recorder, mini DV recorder and just ordered a new Mac computer to store and edit the shows in the near future. It has been very challenging to control all the equipment with only two hands, but I am getting better every show. If anyone is ever near Tunica/ Memphis feel free to give me a shout and stop by.

I am new to the board, and fairly new to DFW.
I worked in that wonderfull party and event area for a little bit, and have now gone solo.
I have a JVC HD110u I just bought a month ago, and I am looking for some work, and to meet some more people in the area.
I can and will rent my setup out, and would like to get into some more shoots.
feel free to call me anytime, I would like to learn more about this camera, I came from a Sony Z1U and find this camera to be a bit confusing attimes.

Adam Barker October 13th, 2006, 11:57 AM Hey everyone,
I just joined recently. So far, I'm finding that this website is very helpful and informative.
My name is Adam Barker and I am from the southwestern Vermont area. I mainly do weddings and corporate videos. I shoot using a Sony HDR-HC1 HDV Camcorder, and I edit on an Apple iMac G5 using Final Cut Express HD version 3.5 and iDVD. I don't have a website yet, but I'm currently looking into possibly getting one (so far it has been word-of-mouth when getting clients).
Looking forward to chatting with everybody here.
Adam

G. Scott Roberts October 15th, 2006, 07:19 PM I recently purchased a Canon XL1s from E-Bay and have been a lurker here for awhile. I am mainly just a hobbiest and do recordings of the kids at their high school football games for DVD formats, and alot of playing around. I love the quality and capabilities of this camera so far. Just wanted to say "Hello" to you all and hope I may be able to contribute a bit since I have been using various digital equipment for years.

Greg Rothschild October 19th, 2006, 05:34 PM Hi all- Thought I'd finally buy a video camera- wanted one for years. Settled on the Canon XHA1 and hopefully it'll arrive soon. I've decided to take the editing side of this hobby seriously- perhaps someday I can make some money editing as opposed (or in addition) to doing the stills and sound work that put food on the table now. So... looking into learning the Avid system. It's a tough call between Avid and FCP but most of my connections are in the broadcast (Network) and that's why I'm leaning toward Avid. Was gonna take the Symphony 101 course- any thoughts on that?

Scott Jensen October 28th, 2006, 05:18 PM For the last fourteen years, I have been a marketer. Last seven as VP of Marketing for Fariel Consulting LLC. Before that, I was an independent marketing consultant. In 2003, an old client of mine commissioned a white paper on peer-to-peer networking and the entertainment industry. http://www.filehash.com/p2p1 It was just before RIAA went around suing home users of p2p networks. So far, the paper has been on target. It predicted the backlash against the RIAA. It also started my interest in p2p entertainment. I produced a pilot of my own talk show but the editor caused it to die before it went any further. Another lesson in barter deals. Currently, I am in negotiations with a poker site to produce a weekly poker show and distribute it over p2p networks. Due to the nature of the show, it looks like I will be doing it in another country than mine (mine's USA). However, I am really ready and looking forward to the change.

Steve Spires November 6th, 2006, 11:07 PM Hi all! This is my first post on DVi. I am a third grade teacher at Honey Island Elementary in Slidell, LA. I am close to retirement and have been pursuing videography since Hurricane Katrina hit. My desire is to be a full-time videographer in the next five years.
I just purchased my first semi-pro camera ... the Canon GL-2. Now, I'm ready for some serious video work.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
