i got this camcorder and premiere on my computer. how can i upload video clips to the computer directly from the camcorder instead of using a deck?

You need a firewire card + cable. Check newegg.com or pricewatch.com for places to buy one.

Yes you can as long as you have a firewire input and cable. You
can buy these if you don't have them as Glenn pointed out.

You will also need an edit application to capture (transfer) the
footage to your computer so you can edit it. There are also
some standalone capture utilities.

Oh, your XL1s is a deck as well, integrated into the camera.
