Can anyone possibly assist with a workaround here?

I have a DV edited show running about 30 minutes that I wanted to make a Sorenson 320x240 QuickTime out of, but when I open up the Microsoft DV AVI file in QuickTime, it only recognizes the first 9 1/2 minutes of the file. The help menu claims that multiple QT files can be copied and pasted together to make a longer file. Is this the ONLY way to do it? Is there any workaround to the QT program's restriction on 9 1/2 minutes of DV footage? I am using Windows 2000 with Premiere 6 and Cleaner 5.1 does not work at all. It just crashes Premiere. I also do not like Cleaner for it does not give the number of options that the actual QT program does.

That 9 1/2 minutes would equal about 4 gig? I have a problem with win2k and avi files of 4 gig. Quicktime however,doesn't have this problem. Use smaller chunks and create a larger QT out of them.

Brad, two questions for you:

- on what filesystem is this file? NTFS or FAT32? Only NTFS
supports AVI files larger than 2/4 GB.
- what AVI type are you using? Type 1 or type 2? If you have
captured with premiere you are using type 2.

What you might try is the following. There is a free application
available called scenalyzer (not the live version, that one costs
money). It can automatically split your file into smaller AVI chunks
if your camera saved date & time in the file. Try it out!

If you can answer my two questions above we might be able
to figure out what is wrong.

9.5 minutes is almost 2 GB.... i suspect you are using a type 1
AVI file... If so, there are some converters available to convert
it to type 2. If you are lucky quicktime can encode that, without
having to split it up with scenalyzer.

My drives are NTFS.

I captured with Raptor (analog video, no DV recorder used - when I said DV edited show, I should have said "Premiere edited")

I ended up figuring how to paste in smaller sections via the QuickTime program to make a longer QT and it worked very nicely, but my basic query is why did it work for me before???

I have no clue.... perhaps the file was just corrupt or something.
Personally I tend to capture in smaller files. But that is me.

I also capture in small chunks, about 10 minutes each. Although I have a fat32 and NTFS setup, I rarely have avi files work if they are bigger than 2 gig. Anything large is usually done with QT.
