Hi there

I forgot to ask about the best tripod and tripod head to use with this camera as well because it is front heavy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Krissy

If you're going to be traveling you'll want something fairly light. The Bogan/Manfrotto 503 head is a popular choice that won't break the bank. For legs there are a number of carbon fiber versions, like the 442 Carbon One Video Tripod, that aren't the cheapest around but are stiff and strong enough for use with the XL1 but still light for travelling.

I would recommend a Miller DS10. I have one for a VX2100 which is also front heavy. There is an internal spring in the DS10 that has two settings; five pounds and ten pounds. You will appreciate having this with your XL. The spring will keep the lens up without you having to increase tilt drag.

Miller offers several styles of legs that vary in price. The kit will cost ~$1000 to $1400, depending on the legs that you choose.
