hey i was just wondering.. for those of you recording on minidisc.. how do you manage to catch the whole ceremony with minidiscs only having an 80min maximum?

also.. have you ever experienced any trouble syncing the sound?

and is this a worthwhile method?

thanks

If you set the minidisc to mono before you record, you will get 160 min of record time. This way you can turn it on 15-20 min before the ceremony and still have plenty of time.

The only time I had a sync issue, turned out to be a bad MD. It records fine but I can't use it to play back. You have to play with it a little in tha timeline until the echo goes away as compared to the on cam mic.

I would definately suggest scrapping the MD idea for iRivers....if you get the 512mb 795 model, you'll get (when coupled with the Giant Squid iRiver mono wired lav) 7 hours of mono record time....and it sounds very good at 160kbs. This allows you to put one on the Officiant and Groom and speakers podium WAY before the ceremony begins, set em to record and lock em, and then just forget about em till you collect em after the ceremony....never having to break a single bead of sweat over running out of time! There's enough stuff to worry about as it is...well worth the money to erase that problem from you mind.

Go with Omni. You get all around coverage which is what you need when you can't totally control the mic placement.

I have to agree that if I were starting over I would go with the Iriver. The MDs limit you to real time transfer as well.

The Giant Squidd mics are the best I have used for this app.

FYI, here is a great guide and thread on using the iRiver H Series: MisticRiver.net thread by framesaver H Series Live Recording Guide v1.0 (http://www.misticriver.net/boards/showthread.php?t=4980).
