A buddy of mine is looking for a small camera in the under $600 range to have around since he and his wife are expecting their first child in a few months. I don't know a lot about cameras in this price range and thought I'd toss the question out here.

He's looking for:
- something without a touch screen interface
- preferable card based, but drive based is ok (no tape)
- decent low light since I'm sure most of his shooting will be inside for the first year or so

I've found some decent deals on refurbs on Canon's site all for under $600. (from highest to lowest)
