I have just started to edit a wedding that was shot on Hi-8 tapes. The quality is not very good and rather grainy. I am using Vegas 8 to edit this project and was wondering what techniques other users use when dealing this kind of problem.

Will some kind of blur or sharpening help in this case?

Any tips are welcome.

Doubtful that anything will really help much. Remember its GIGO. Hi8 in it's day wasn't great but it was somewhat better than VHS although it depended on the gear used.
Anyway you might find that unless it's a perasonal job like your own wedding or one of your childrens, that the amount of time you spend working on it might not be worth the time and or trouble of trying to fix something that for the most part can't be fixed.
If it were me, I'd leave it alone do the best you can with what ya got and go from there, but that's just me.

Take a look at some of the filters from the Mike Crash collection (http://mikecrash.com/index.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6) as they may be of some help to you.
They're all free which is a bonus :-)

Thanks Don and Mike for your advice, much appreciated.

I'll check out the Mike Crash footage and see how it goes.

I had problems with this some time back and found that playing round with Levels, Colour Curves and HSL sometimes (but not always) helped (and in a couple of instances I used the Secondary Colout Corrector - sometimes more than once on a single event).

Good Luck,
