I think that Atomos personnel monitor this site so I have a question which is whether or not the DNX codec and other promised features will be shown and soon available at NAB 2012?

I am still waiting on the cable promised last year for Samurai purchasers.

Bruce...didn't you get the email notification regarding the 'Firmware' upgrade scheduled for NAB '2012?

http://www.atomos.com/press/articles/press008-NAB2012-AtomosAnnounceAtomOS3.0-20120412.pdf

Regarding the 'Cables and D-Tap' this is the response I just received:

"We are very sorry for the delays, we did have some problems that did delay the production of the cables.
We have these very near completion just in final stages now and expect them to be delivered after NAB.
We will email all registered users once we have the dates."

You might want to get information 'from the horses mouth', so to speak, rather then a 'public' forum. Jus say'n.

I was under the impression that the over and under cranking feature that they were working on would be ready by NAB, but there was no mention of it in the latest 3.0 press release. Any news on that? Do you know of any rumors of other features they're working on?

No I didn't get the memo, and thanks for pointing it out.

I do take issue with this statement in that memo;
“Now there’s no need for an external monitor”, added Young.

As much as I like the overall performance of the Samurai recorder, its monitor is simply unacceptable as a confidence unit as (at least the one I have) is color desaturated with low brightness level. It works fine for playback checks, and perhaps the firmware update and the new features will improve it magically. I'm skeptical though and use another higher end monitor for client and confidence checking.

One of the nice things about technical forums is that dissemination of this type of information is what the forum is usually about. If I had nothing but time on my hands to bug manufacturers about their products then I probably wouldn't need the product anyway. Jus say'n.

Bruce...indeed?

Yes, the 'screen' on the Samurai will not replace a dedicated and properly calibrated monitor.

Jus' say'in.
