Hey guys,

A client has given me some DVDs to rip so I can edit them.

What's the best method to rip them so that they maintain the best quality possible?

I've tried Handbrake, but I'm not too keen on it. I've also considered using the VOD files but I'd prefer the entire DVD to be in one video file.

There are any number of DVD rippers, many freeware, on the net...you might like mpegStreamclip, available for either mac or pc, from Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac and Windows (http://www.squared5.com). Various output options, avi, mov, dv, etc. This excellent program is a staple for many of us, for all kinds of conversions, and it's free.

I believe the VOB files will all parse at individual files. You can easily join them, if they are all the same type and specs, by naming them with sequential numbers and joining them with a file joiner, such as Simple File Joiner

Glad it worked for you. I should clarify that I was thinking of joining the output files...avi, or whatever...after they have been converted fom the vob's. Cheers!
