View Full Version : Problem with my new NX800

Had my NX800 for a few weeks now. Main use is/was to be filming insects, butterflies and dragonflies. Need time to get used to it after years on MFT cameras.

Anyway just now it's packed up on me. Switch it on, but after the briefest of images the image goes. Not a sudden switch off but like a curtain quickly dropping. The viewfinder/screen info still there and the cam responds when e.g. the Menu Button pushed.

Will record audio but not video.

Tried different CF cards but still the same.

Help!

Would it be possible that you are only seeing that brief image during the finalisation of the boot up sequence, and there is a lens exposure setting (or even an auto ND) that is being applied ready for what the camera thinks you are wanting it to do?

You may very well be right Andrew! I had been fiddling about with the ND settings earlier today.

Just now I switched the ND switch from "white" to "amber" which I assume to be "off" to "on" and the screen image returned.

Built in ND filter quite a plus though I'm not that keen on automation. Being an old man!

Anyway thanks a lot and back to my learning curve.

Had a feeling it might have been something like that (and hence changing media cards won't have made a difference). I'm grinning and cheering for you.

Plus you had your solution within 10 minutes of posting to DVinfo. The stuff of legend, right there.

Indeed and thanks again.

(As an aside far from being too old for this (four score years and a bit) my only wildlife videoing friends, two UK based and one in Oz, are far from the "first flush". Another, California based, also an oldster, alas no longer with us)
