For those of you interested in the new Dell 2407 24" Monitor, some specs are listed in these threads. According to the first thread, it should be coming out in March but it must be delayed.

The only thing that remains to be seen is if the 2407 will display a true 1080i signal via the compenent jacks. According to the last post in this thread (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=51773), the 2405 does not support 1080i via the component inputs. Someone in the AVS forum is double checking this, but it would be good to know if anyone here can confirm this issue with the Dell 2405. This is important for anyone wanting to also utilize the Dell as a field monitor while shooting with a HDV camcorder (as Shannon Rawls (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41823) did with a 19" Dell HDTV (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=42494)).

As far as i know (but i will double check), my JVC D-VHS play perfectly well in 1080i on the 2405 over components.
and i read several post of people using the LCD just for monitoring purpose (no PC connection).
The only trouble is to find a VGA card that accept to display such resolution thru DVI, since most of the old card just go up to 1600x1200.
And usually they advertise for higher resolutions, but they forget to tell you that is only for the analog output, so you better had to check twice.
(most of newest ATI card can , but they are very expensive).
Fortunately, you still can feed the signal with analog VGA, so my cheap FX5200 is not yet good for retirement.
I should say when you work (like me) on a dual 2405 config, it looks really good.

As far as I know, the purpose of the 24" 2407 (replacing the 2405) is to add HDCP (high-bandwidth digital-content protection), thus making it compatible with the Windows Vista OS.

All other hardware specs look virtually the same - and judging by the 20" 2007 release (replacing the 2005), I'm betting we can expect about the same upgrades in the 2407.

It'd be nice to see something that proves otherwise...

The Dell 2405 DOES display 1080 content natively.

Dan, through component? I've been trying and can only get 480p. What am I doing wrong?

Mine plays from my FX1 OK. You have a choice of display format have you changed those? I use the 1:1 pixel selection and it plays 16x9 and correctly seems to almost fill screen. In my opinion the picture is fair nowhere near as good as playback on my Sony HiScan CRT 27". The difference is obviously in the conversion to progressive from interlace 1080i. This conversion scaler may not be as good as in a dedicated TV.
