Lawrence Bansbach July 25th, 2006, 12:19 PM Sony did it with their CMOS chip in the tine A1UDid what? Cram HD resolution onto a quarter-inch chip, or maintain a small form factor with a third-inch chip? I assume you mean the latter, as the HVR-AU1 uses a third-inch chip, but only one -- so the bulk of a prism assembly was eliminated. And its lens is a 10-to-1, not a 20-to-1. Still, you may be right. It's possible that Canon may decide to cut costs -- and bulk --and go with a single CMOS chip. Bob Zimmerman July 25th, 2006, 10:41 PM http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?p=517698#post517698 Christopher Brown July 25th, 2006, 11:46 PM Looks like the guy at the store was right when he said the XM2/GL2 was now discontinued. Lawrence Bansbach July 26th, 2006, 06:51 AM Has anyone even contemplated how it would be possible to design an HD cam with the GL form factor?I happily stand corrected. It's official -- two GL form factor models: the XH-G1 and XH-A1. Tim Goldman July 26th, 2006, 06:53 AM Yeah, I just hope they will push xl2 prices lower. I can't affords an xl2 as it is, so i really can't afford the new canons. Maybe in a year, not to long Riley Harmon July 26th, 2006, 08:56 AM he was right, check the new forum Chris Hurd July 26th, 2006, 09:50 AM Looks like the guy at the store was right when he said the XM2/GL2 was now discontinued.Bzzt! Sorry, but he was wrong. The XM2 / GL2 / XV2 are not discontinued. The new XH Series HDV camcorders are additions to the Canon line and they're not replacing anything. The XM2 / GL2 / XV2 are still current products and will continue to be until year's end at least. Remember, if it ain't gone from the Canon site, then it ain't discontinued. Hope this helps, Jos Svendsen July 26th, 2006, 09:55 AM pls. note My mole in Canon has leaked that two video related announcements are comming up. The first one is comming 26th of july. The second is comming 2nd of August. Something is going to happen the 2nd as well. Mark Kubat July 26th, 2006, 12:20 PM pls. note Something is going to happen the 2nd as well. Okay, Jos - amazing. If the announcement on the 2nd is true as you say and as good today, I will officially name my first-born child - boy or girl - "Jos Svendsen" - haha! Man, I'm a Canon believer again! Born again!!!! best, Mark Greg Boston July 26th, 2006, 12:25 PM pls. note Something is going to happen the 2nd as well. That's likely to be the 6x wide angle lens for the XLH1. It's already on Canon Japan's website. -gb- James Swirsky July 26th, 2006, 12:50 PM The wide angle also snuck on to the Canon USA site: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelFeaturesAct&fcategoryid=175&modelid=12152&pageno=0 No price info to be seen though... Daniel Epstein July 26th, 2006, 01:58 PM That's likely to be the 6x wide angle lens for the XLH1. It's already on Canon Japan's website. Of course the Canon 6x has already been announced so all they would be telling us is the List price and actual features. Seems to me they should be announcing something else on Aug 2nd Greg Boston July 26th, 2006, 02:16 PM Well, this should tell you how far lenses have come in terms of built in electronics. No longer just polished glass in a metal barrel. A footnote from the Canon USA website concerning the 6X lens. The Canon HD Video Lens 6x Zoom XL 3.4-20.4mm L has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until such authorization is obtained. Christopher Brown July 27th, 2006, 01:59 AM Bzzt! Sorry, but he was wrong. Hope this helps, Thanks for the clarification - I will have to go back to the shop and talk to the guy again. He definitely said he couldn't get anymore as it was now discontinued. Wouldn't really make sense for him to lose a sale if they were still available for him to buy. Steve Roark July 27th, 2006, 04:19 AM Wouldn't really make sense for him to lose a sale if they were still available for him to buy. I wonder if he just doesn't want to order a large batch of SD units in case the SD market bottoms out, and ordering one unit wouldn't offer him the discount he needs to turn a profit. Christopher Brown July 27th, 2006, 08:24 PM Remember - this was before any announcement. Anyway - doesn't matter anymore - the new cam is out :) |
