View Full Version : military text sound Kevin Foristal April 1st, 2003, 04:54 PM I'm looking for a sound effect that sound like when the text reads in at the beginning of hunt for red october or the beginning of JAG on cbs Don Berube April 1st, 2003, 06:33 PM OK perhaps not many people know about the following website, but it is truly an outstanding resource for when you need sound FX. It is called http://www.sounddogs.com. Do a keyword search for "teletype". - don Kevin Foristal April 1st, 2003, 06:55 PM Don...you are the man! I have been looking for this particular sound for a week. Thanks for your quick response. And thanks to DVinfo for such a great resource! Bryan Beasleigh April 2nd, 2003, 12:47 AM Are you taling about a teletype or cypher machine? Hans Henrik Bang April 2nd, 2003, 06:49 AM It is really neither. It is a "movie logic" sound like spaceships in starwars saying "whooosh" when they fly by. In movies computers always write slowly across the screen, and make sounds when they do so :-) In Hunt for red October it is sort of a high pitched beeping sound that comes with each letter. Hans Henrik Kevin Foristal April 2nd, 2003, 09:50 AM So ya know where I can find it? The one on sounddogs was close but not quite right Hans Henrik Bang April 2nd, 2003, 10:19 AM Sorry, I rummaged around Sounddogs too, but couldnt find anything like it. Hans Henrik Phil Reams April 2nd, 2003, 03:11 PM I can't remember the exact sound in Red October, but a common sound used in movies is radioteletype. Is this the sound? http://www.n2ty.org/newsletter/rtty.wav -Phil Harry Settle April 2nd, 2003, 05:18 PM No, that's not it. Harry Settle April 2nd, 2003, 05:33 PM Go back to sound dogs, a couple of the soundbytes in the conputer section under computer telemetry readout, down towards the bottom, sound really close. Phil Reams April 2nd, 2003, 06:22 PM Darn. I'm renting the movie tonight. I like a challenge! :-) I'm certain someone here will come up with it... -Phil Mike Moncrief April 2nd, 2003, 06:33 PM Not sure what the sound you are looking for sounds like, but another place to llok on the web is www.findsounds.com The best part is it is free !! Mike Moncrief Hans Henrik Bang April 3rd, 2003, 01:56 AM These ones on "Findsounds" may be useful if you loop/edit them a bit. http://www.stinsv.com/VOy/Soundfx/medbutt.wav http://www.dewa.com/sound/beep4.wav Hans Henrik John Locke April 25th, 2003, 07:09 AM Kevin, I've been looking for that same sound forever...I can't believe it's so hard to find since so many movies use it now. Practically every military or sci-fi flick that has text printed across the screen uses it. I'll let you know if I find it... |
