I need an adapter to adapt my xl2 to an ITE tripod. The tripod has a screw that is about 3/8" and of course the xl2 has a screw hole that is about a 1/4". I don't know the metric sizes here. Any help in pointing me in the right direction to find a source for an adapter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Donn
All you need is a 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor - Manfrotto 120 or better still
use a Manfrotto 577 sliding plate adaptor which has a quick release
which makes camera removal easy.

Hope this helps

The Canon TA-100 is Canon's quick release set up and has 1/4 - 20 and 3/8 - 16 female threads. The QR plate that fits on the XL2 body is attached by four small screws, whose holes are around the body's 1/4 - 20 hole.

This is a nice quick release system. The different holes allow you to place the mount at, or near the center of gravity. It works the same as the larger Sony mount, for full sized cameras.

Once the TA-100 is on your ITE head, you won't need to use the ITE's release. Just check the QR plate on the body occasionally to make sure it's tight. Same for the mount on the head, be sure it's tight.

And because it's a quick release, mounting and dismounting is, well, quick.
