Here's a little experiment I did with some HDV in Final Cut Pro. I was mainly interested in testing it with some time remapping and compositing/titling. Pretty satisfying results, in my opinion.

Side notes - today I got Douglas Spotted Eagle's 'HDV:What you NEED to know' book and so far I am very impressed. Dense with great info for HDV shooting. I also just recieved the Schneider optics wide angle lens converter and was playing around with that this morning. Very very sharp results - i'm looking forward to diving in to some creative projects with that.

Nice test footage. I especially like the tight shots with their shallow DoF.

I'm about to start my first attempt at editing footage from the A1U on FCP using a Mac Pro.

And thanks for the tip on the Douglas Spotted Eagle book.

Any chance of a direct download? I can't seem to get it to work.

hmmm.... it is encoded using h.264 so you would need to have quicktime 7 installed on your machine before it will play. not sure how to set up a direct download... is there a site where i can make the file available?

Upload your video files to blip.tv (http://blip.tv) and they will automatically transcode it to Flash for playback on the web. You can select whether the blip player shows the QuickTime or Flash version. Their player is easily embedded in your web site and does not show their logo. Blip.tv is free and their terms of use are media maker friendly. In the spirit of being "fair and balanced" (not in the Fox news sense of the phrase but the old fashioned sense of the phrase) another strong contender for quality video delivery on the web is Brightcove (http://www.brightcove.com/).
