NP-FH100 vs. Generic Battery for Sony HDR-SR12

Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting this battery: NP-FH100 | NP-FH100 Info LITHIUM® H Series Super Stamina Rechargeable Battery Pack NP-FH100 | Sony | SonyStyle USA for a wedding I have to shoot, but I'm wondering if there's a generic out there which isn't as costly. Please give me the heads up if you have an opinion, thanks!

Edit: I just saw this on the BH site, any thoughts? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...n_Battery.html I wonder if the life is equal.

I picked one up on ebay (an original Sony NP-FH100) for USD $45.90 from a Chinese seller, delivery included. Great battery.

Makes my small DCR-HC52 look freakish (and makes for some distance between the eye and viewfinder, but still usable). It's definitely preferable to using the limited-life NP-FH30 this cam came with. I'd say go for it.

Thanks Bruce. I appreciate your response. I think I'm just going to order the Sony battery, maybe from BH. I need this for a wedding and I can't afford to have anything go wrong!

Best,

David H.

David,

You're going to have to buy a Sony battery, I learned the hard way. A generic battery on any Sony Handycam camcorder made in the last 3 years or so won't work. I have the SR11 and the CX7 and when I tried use a generic battery, I got an error message on both cameras stating something to the effect that the battery was not a Sony. Then the cameras shut down. I haven't heard of any workaround since then, but my advice would be to save yourself some grief and buy the genuine battery.
