60p to 24p

A couple of shots from our all 720p 24pn project were mistakenly shot in the default video mode 720p 60p.

Avid won't allow me to add them to the same project. Does anyone know of a tool that will allow us to change the 60p footage to 24p?

Thanks,

matt

What project preset rate setting are you currently using?
Is this HVX 200 acquired footage??

The project is 23.976p

The mxf files are in 'Avid MediaFiles/mxf/1'.

I can see all the files in the bin, an add any to the project except the ones that were shot in the HVX's 60p video mode.

I created another project at 59.94p an then I can use the files in questions, but only those and not the 24pn files.

On a pc xpress pro hd 5.2.4

Thanks,

matt

Believe it or not that makes sense. You would need to convert your 24 fps footage to 60p. Unfortunately I don't know of a conversion tool for DVCProHD
other than Cinema tools on the Mac.

Give a couple of minutes and I'll see if I can figure something out for you.

This might work, but you would need to convert your 60p footage.

I hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify, this is a 'film' project. I'm looking to convert the 60p stuff to 24p.

What I can't wrap my head around is that the overcranked stuff we shot, which is also 60p, but shot in film mode, works fine. The stuff shot in the HVX's default video mode 720p 60p, however, throws the 'frame rate does not match project frame rate' error.

Nattress, mac only, does 60p to 24p. What's the pc solution?

I think the software solution above www.dvfilm.com
is the only PC solution other than maybe
Cineform NEO. www.cineform.com

The problem with NEO is that it encode into Cineform codec while wrapping in Quicktime. Then when you import into Avid you take an additional codec compression hit when you go to DVCPro HD or DNXHD.

Let me know how it works out for you.

I've sent an email to DVFilm to see if they do 60p to 24p.

I know they do 60i to 24p.

Solution

Well, I found a couple of solutions.

The DVCPro HD Batch Converter that comes with DV Rack HD will export the 60p as a .mov that can then be imported into Avid's 24p timeline.

Also you can export an .avi or .mov from a 60p Avid project that can then be imported into your 24p project.

I guess the odd thing is that you can't mix these in the Avid timeline. I also get errors trying to Import an .mxf file into Avid. Mxf files must be put into the 'Avid MediaFiles/mxf' folder.

Thanks for the replies,

matt
