-oz

Keith Loh May 5th, 2004 02:15 AM

The Wire. Strong story. Huge arc. Characters you care about.

K. Forman May 5th, 2004 05:23 AM

I've never watched any of those, except for a few episodes of Oz years ago. Can I vote for Highlander instead?

Yohann Kouam May 5th, 2004 09:11 AM

sure...

Josh Brusin May 5th, 2004 09:32 AM

first season of six feet was fantastic... Saw one episode of Carnivale - kinda sucked.
Never really watched Sopranos (first episode- waiting to see them in order).
Sex in the City was good but got stupid...

!
Family Guy
Simpsons
ATHF
!

Keith Loh May 5th, 2004 09:43 AM

There's a new HBO series about six eps in called "Deadwood". It's a western. Pretty good so far. The USA Today wrote it up this week because of its liberal use of F-bombs and other swears.

Rob Belics May 5th, 2004 11:04 AM

I watch a little sports, The Sopranos and, believe it or not, American Idol. Nothing else. This years Sopranos started out poorly but seems to be improving.

My wife watched Six Feet Under till this year and like Carnivale.

One of my sons likes 24 and Carnivale.

Keith Loh May 5th, 2004 11:22 AM

I'm a big fan of "24" too. It satisfies the entertainment factor by weight alone. There is always some twist and turn happening, no matter how unlikely.

J. Clayton Stansberry May 5th, 2004 12:53 PM

scrubs!

Neil Fisher May 5th, 2004 04:09 PM

csi

trailer park boys - best show ever

Rob Belics May 5th, 2004 07:11 PM

Those aren't on the list.

Matt Stahley May 5th, 2004 07:17 PM

Two more not on the list

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Twin Peaks

Frank Granovski May 5th, 2004 07:43 PM

You mean current serious'?

24 and Enterprise. But the old ones are always best.

John Hudson May 5th, 2004 10:54 PM

OZ is epic.
Sopranos is great stuff.
ER is always good.
Twin Peaks was really fun.

Yohann Kouam May 6th, 2004 12:34 AM

wow, i totally disagree with that, name some old series that are better than those in the list.

Charles Papert May 6th, 2004 01:27 AM

<<<-- Originally posted by J. Clayton Stansberry : scrubs! -->>>

Grazie

Yohann Kouam May 6th, 2004 10:03 AM

wow! i don't know any of these series, i guess they're not broadcasted in the states. i think series are getting better and better with the time ever since HBO launched its quality shows

peace

Ed Smith May 6th, 2004 10:29 AM

Yohann,

Thats because all the ones in Graham's list were made in the UK!!!

I'm sure you have re-runs of Eastenders, and Monty Python in the states?

Mind you we do get most/ some of the USA series...

My list:
Friends
The simpsons
The Office
...

Graham Bernard May 6th, 2004 10:29 AM

"i think series are getting better and better with the time ever since HBO launched its quality shows"

. . . majority of these are pre-HBO . . they range from the 50s to now . . HBO? There was life before HBO . . and maybe just maybe the Directors and Writers of HBO had been influenced by these . . oldies . .

Peace & Love

Grazie

Yohann Kouam May 6th, 2004 10:54 AM

heard some awesome review about bbc's the office. can't wait they run it here

Keith Loh May 6th, 2004 10:57 AM

It's been out on DVD all this month.

Richard Alvarez May 6th, 2004 11:04 AM

Old series that are better than some on the list.

Even allowing that aesthetics change over time... and some of the new series will seem "quaint' in their stylistic approach before too long.

I submit MASH and ALL IN THE FAMILY

Groundbreaking, great writing, cutting edge and still worth watching.

Keith Loh May 6th, 2004 11:34 AM

Hill Street Blues, Prime Suspect, Twin Peaks, early seasons of Law and Order...

Graham Bernard May 6th, 2004 12:24 PM

Yohann, when you finally get to see The Office, I'd really like to hear what you think of it . . truly! It's a "managment" thing - yeah?

Grazie

John Hudson May 6th, 2004 08:43 PM

MASH!

I had almost forgot; and yes, Bunker was classic. Here's one:

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl!

LOL

Or anything in the Syd and Marty Croft lineup!

Alright, I was 6.

Charles Papert May 7th, 2004 01:21 AM

The Croft Supershow! Munched quite a few bowls of Quisp over that one.

John Hudson May 7th, 2004 09:19 PM

Quisp!

LOL

Chris Hurd May 8th, 2004 03:51 AM

OT: between Quisp and Quake, I always thought Quisp was better. Better shwag offers, too. Waited weeks for the high-flying-UFO-on-a-parachute deal but it was worth it.

Graham Bernard May 8th, 2004 04:15 AM

I have BUT totally lost the plot on this thread!! - No change there then . . .

Grazie

Yohann Kouam May 8th, 2004 04:36 AM

to me the most realistic is the wire. does the show get a good audience?

Frank Granovski May 8th, 2004 05:14 AM

Yohann, to answer your question here is my partial list:

Hill Street Blues (already mentioned)
The Invaders
King of Kensington :-)
The Outer Limits
The Twilight Zone
Star Trek
The Munsters :-)
Candid Camera :-)

Here is a little glimpse in the psyche of John.

In no particular order:

Mash, of course

La Femme Nikita the series not the movie

Stargate SG1

Enterprise

The All Time Winner; The Twilight Zone

Rick Bravo May 10th, 2004 09:28 PM

Fuggedaboudit!

Sopranos-The Shield-Oz

Charles Papert May 10th, 2004 10:46 PM

I'd like to add (many of my faves have already been listed:

The Larry Sanders Show
Fawlty Towers
The Ben Stiller Show

Richard Alvarez May 11th, 2004 07:24 AM

Well, if we are focussing on series that were "groundbreaking"... then historically, you should go back to the early days of televison. How bout "Playhouse 90" and "The Sid Ceasar Show"?

As a side note, "My Favourite Year" is one of my favourite films about early television. Great film.

Rob Lohman May 11th, 2004 07:40 AM

If I must choose from the list my pick is 24. But that show is
third to Scrubs (thanks Charles!) and Wonderfalls (if it wasn't
cancelled).

24 is the only show that had me sitting on the edge of my sofa
with my heart pumping and sweat in my hands during one of
the latest episodes (the one with Chapel). Damn!

I also like La Femme Nikita the series as well as Stargate SG1
and was a great fan of Star Trek Deep Space 9. Even futher
back TNG as well and I even enjoyed Voyager. But it's been a
while since I've seen those. I should get a Nikita DVD box if that
is out.

John Hudson May 11th, 2004 11:59 PM

The Larry Sanders Show was epic! Good call Charles!

Joe Carney May 20th, 2004 01:44 PM

I'm really getting into the new mini series 'Deadwood' on HBO.
The woman who plays Calamity Jane should get an emmy. All the performances are strong. Though I've never heard the F word used so much since I left the Army.

Keith Loh May 20th, 2004 02:24 PM

Robin Wiegert

Yes I've been following Deadwood. That actress really is great. I mean, I've started walking around swearing in the office too. Pretty soon I'm going to accidentally call a client a cocksucker. Her name is Robin Wiegert. I became an instant fan in that episode when she was scared and blustering when Swearingen (what a great name) walked right through her to see the Norwegian girl.
