Brian DePalma

There is a nice write up about Brian DePalma in today's NYTimes by AO Scott.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/17/movies/17scot.html

I have to say...he does makes a bunch of turkeys, but damn...

Carrie, Blow-Out, Dressed to Kill, Body Double, Scarface, The Untouchables, Carlito's Way, Snake Eyes and Femme Fatale... A whole bunch of movies I sometimes consider guilty pleasures.

Incidentally, is "Black Dahlia" worth watching?

I kind of wish Curtis Hanson followed up "LA Confidential" with it instead of de Palma.

Hmmm... it's only okay. Visually superb as would be expected (decent perfomances too) but other than that it is quite weak , muddled and tedious. It's not as good as La Confidential as it really lacks a dynamic and driving narrative.
