Quick rambling thoughts in no particular order:

PILLOW TALK
"Howdy maam, I'm Rex Stetson."

BLAZING SADDLES
"Excuse me while I whip this out."

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
"Chaaarrrge!"

HIS GIRL FRIDAY
"Now listen, you never came here tonight." "Oh yes I did, I came right through that door."

FATHER GOOSE
"Frank! You've got to get me off this island." "Can't do it, Walter."

LIAR LIAR
"It's the claw!"

RUTHLESS PEOPLE
"Yeah, then we can take the money and go to Haiti." "That's Tahiti."

MEET THE IN-LAWS
"I've got nipples too, does that mean you can milk me?"

I'm sure there are others!

of course I have. it's OK ^-^, its not my best, but it's not my worst either. I enjoyed the movie though.

<<<-- Originally posted by Nigel Moore : As far as war films go, The Heroes of Telemark, Where Eagles Dare, The Battle of Britain and Stalag 17 are pretty decent. -->>>

I'm not sure about first three films, but Stalag 17. i couldn't agree more, it's great movie.

John Locke May 22nd, 2003 09:54 PM

War films?

How about "Kelly's Heroes," "A Midnight Clear," "Gallipoli," "The Great Escape," and "Saving Private Ryan"? (I agree with you about "Where Eagles Dare"...but "Stalag 17" has never been one of my favorites, everyone seems to be trying very hard to look like they're acting)

John Locke May 22nd, 2003 10:12 PM

Joseph, you've been posing some interesting topics lately!

Here's my list:

Raising Arizona
"Son...you got a panty on your head."

The Big Lebowski
The Dude: And, you know, he's got emotional problems, man.
Walter Sobchak: You mean... beyond pacifism?
...and...
The Dude:[talking to the other Jeffrey Lebowski] Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski - you're Mr.Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if,you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
"Those aren't pillows!!!"

The In-Laws (the original with Peter Falk)
"Serpentine!"

The Out-of Towners (the original with Jack Lemmon)
The "mugging" scene

Me, Myself, and Irene
The pee scene...makes me hit the floor every time.

Bottle Rocket
"It ain't no trip to Cleveland."
"He's out. You're out, too. And I don't think I'm in, either. No gang!"
"How does an asshole like Bob get such a great kitchen?"

Some Girls
"So...just how many of my daughters have you slept with?"

John Locke May 22nd, 2003 10:22 PM

Keith,

I didn't have a clue who Helen Mirren was until I looked her up at IMDB...good choice.

It's funny how people see things differently...I thought Shallow Hal wasn't that bad.

A movie that really marked me is Harakiri ( aka Seppuku ) by Masaki Kobayashi. It strongly reflects the japanese culture not only in its content but also the way it is filmed, which is very structured and tight. It is mostly axed on dialogue and it is a really intense script!! Check it out if you guys have a chance one day.

"Winner of a Special Jury Prize at Cannes in 1963. Japan 1962. Director: Masaki Kobayashi. Cast: Tatsuya Nakadai, Shima Iwashita, Akira Ishihama. B&W, 35mm, in Japanese with English subtitles. 135 mins. "

Josh Bass May 22nd, 2003 11:31 PM

Run Lola Run
Cemetery Man
Man Bites Dog

I know I've seen more, but these are the only ones I've really cared for.

Maybe "Bad Taste" counts? Peter Jackson's from New Zealand. I guess "Heavenly Creatures," also, in that case.

Dylan Couper May 22nd, 2003 11:42 PM

My favorites modern foreign films:

Y Tu Mamia Tambien
Once Were Warriors

A lot of classic foreign favorites. Not gonna list em all, but Seven Samurai would have the #1 spot for sure.

Dylan Couper May 22nd, 2003 11:50 PM

Strange Brew

Also like Road Trip, Super Troopers, and the comedy aspect of Tremors. So many good comedies over ther years, hard to pick real favorites.

Adrian Douglas May 23rd, 2003 12:02 AM

Maybe "Bad Taste" is the reason that the NZ film industry is so small? However, "Once Were Warriors" and "What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted" certainly halp make up for it.

On the other side of the pond, Australia, Romper Stomper, is one that stands out, along with "The Castle", and I'm not dreamin.

Here in Japan, "Samauri Fiction" is a up there. Dylan, you should check it out.

The Brits have put out some pearlers in the form of "Mean Machine" and "Snatch".
