Okay, if sports fantasies are allowed, then THE NATURAL.

How does DIRTY DANCING make it as a musical? It's a movie with dancing that has songs but the story isn't told in the musical numbers.

Here's some more that I loved:
ALL THAT JAZZ
SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER and UNCUT
JESUS CHRIST: SUPERSTAR

Nigel Moore May 23rd, 2003 02:42 PM

My wife would like to add Jesus Christ Superstar.

I'm not sure whether this is Christian genre, Musical genre, a crossover, or a genre of its own (Christian Musical Lloyd Webber genre perhaps?)

Whatever, it's her choice, not mine!

Nigel Moore May 23rd, 2003 02:46 PM

I don't like films that use music specifically to tell the story, as I mentioned elsewhere it contradicts my lack of imagination.

But I liked On The Town and South Pacific

Richard Alvarez May 23rd, 2003 04:00 PM

Hmmm,
Seperate sports fantasy heading maybe....

Field of Dreams.

Mark Moore May 23rd, 2003 05:15 PM

Almost any Rock Hudson, Doris Day movie.

HIS GIRL FRIDAY

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE
The scene describing the DIRTY DOZEN was great.

MURPHY'S ROMANCE

PRINCESS BRIDE

Michael Wisniewski May 23rd, 2003 06:14 PM

The Princess Bride

Fearless Vampire Killers. A very young (and alive) Sharon Tate!

Matt Betea May 23rd, 2003 10:18 PM

Strange Brew :p

Stadt der Verloren Kinder.

Everything by Jean Vigo... L'Atalante, Zero de Conduite, Apropos de Nice.

Everything by Alexander Dovshenko, especially Zemlya ("Earth"), one of my all-time favorites.

Cinema Paradiso.

I think from a technical standpoint The Color Purple stands out. Why it didn't win an award is beyond me. Frankly I think Whoopi Goldberg's best movie.

Of the best job burying a film that has to go to Barbarosa featuring Willie Nelson. I have always thought that was one of the better westerns.

In the Hollywood attempting to correct its lame writing in mysteries category I'd say The Sixth Sense. My only complaint about the movie is that they didn't warn us that they had a good script!

For Christmas movies, who could argue with A Christmas Story. Though Its a Wonderful Life is neck and neck with Story.

In animation Baski's Wizards is a gem. It demonstrates the fledling talent of this animator and why Disney later hired him. As I recall, the character Elenore was even featured in Playboy's Letters section.

Anyone saw "Ciao Manhattan" with a live Edie Sedgwick?
Saw it 30 years ago or so. Was impressed, can't remember why though..

Rob Lohman May 26th, 2003 07:05 AM

I don't know who asked the question, but I haven't seen
Amsterdamned. It supposed to have some cool boat chase
seens on the water indeed (in the city). Amsterdam is an okay
city, but not the nicest one here in Holland in my opinion....

And no, Holland isn't the capital of Amsterdam. And no, Amsterdam
isn't the capitol of Holland either!

It does have the largest airport in the country though!

I have only seen one gay movie: F---ing Amal which I liked.
About two young girls who discover their love for eachother.
