SD Card reader problem with C300

I've just tried to update the firmware on my Canon C300 and it is not recognising any SD Cards to reformat them to put the new firmware on - the ones I have tried are Sandisk Extreme 20mbs 8GB SDHC and Sandisk Extreme111.

I fear there might be a problem with the actual card reader on the camera which will involve sending it to the Canon Repair Centre.

Anybody else come across this problem? Or could I be using the wrong SD cards?

The 2 CF cards are visible on the initialise media menu but the SD card is not selectable. I've reset all the settings but that had no effect. There is a reset hole on the back of the body above the slot select button , might that help?
